norman Leader's letter

As we start back again after the summer break it is good to look back and see where we have come from and then look ahead to where we are going!

Over this last year we have been looking at the early chapters of Acts and wanting to align ourselves as a church with the way things were done in the New Testament. The key to this is an active expectation that what God did then he will do again in our generation – even though the particulars may be different.

In the book of Acts some things stand out clearly:
  1. They were a people led by the Holy Spirit
  2. Their expectation was fashioned by their knowledge that Jesus was raised from the dead.
  3. That God’s presence and the knowledge of His will was what they were seeking in every situation.
  4. That they were praying for God’s Kingdom to come and for what was happening in heaven to be reflected in their lives on earth, as they prayed for the sick and spoke to people about why Jesus came to the earth in the first place.
  5. That they expected that through the church the glory of God could be seen in a way that ordinary people could relate to.
So should we expect anything less – I think not!

We are also just launching our new groups on a fortnightly basis designed around our desire as a church that each person would be brought to maturity in God as they are:
  • Filled with the knowledge of God
  • Developing character in our lives as we interact with one another
  • Learning to develop new skills that will enable us to operate in the Power of the Holy Spirit.
These groups not being led by experts, but by those who are themselves growing in maturity, but are now that bit further ahead that they are now in a position to help others forward. These groups cover all the ages from middle school upwards.

The other part of our determination to grow is being helped forward by our prayer triplets – to which we invite every member to participate.

Well, is that enough to be going on with?! Let’s see what God will do as we offer ourselves to him as living sacrifices! I don’t think that we will be disappointed at all!
