Work on the foundations of a building is not the most inspiring work – unless that is, you take a prophetic view to what is happening!  The ability to ‘see’ what the building will eventually look like is what spurs on the work at this stage.

So, we have begun this year with the whole church going through the ‘Firm Foundations Course’ in small groups, with the ultimate aim that each member of the church has their life powerfully touched by the Spirit of God, as they once again carefully examine the fundamentals of what God intends for us, having been awakened by God and brought to new life in Jesus.

Not only that, but as we continue to work our way through the book of Acts on Sunday mornings, we are being reminded each week of our total need to put into practice what we are studying, and to allow faith to grow as we see and take note of the way in which God is working amongst us – and He is!  Little by little testimonies are coming through of those who are suddenly meeting with God and starting to speak in tongues for the first time, or of those who having been prayed for, suddenly finding that their doctor is saying things like “I don’t need to see you for another six months – your condition has changed!”

In his book “Riding the third wave” (Marshall-Pickering) John Wimber has an article by a psychiatrist John White who asks the question ‘have I as a Westerner lost the capacity to perceive the supernatural, a capacity largely retained by non-Westerners?”.  Later in the same article he adds that, after asking that question, he learned that  to experience a paradigm shift such as is needed to retrieve this lost capacity, requires each of us  ‘to act consistently as if the universe corresponds to the view the Bible give us of it’.

Well, this is what we are attempting to do that we might see all that God intends for His church restored to us today.  Let’s press on and not give up!
